Phone call recording is a cost-effective way to understand your customers better and increase sales for your small business. For example, you can record phone calls on your iPhone when interviewing with a customer. You can create a podcast from your recorded calls for your marketing campaign. Besides, the call recording feature empowers you to comply with legal and compliance guidelines.
You might think it would be an easy task to record phone calls on an iPhone, but this turns out to be quite tricky. On Apple iPhone, there is no built-in support for call recording, and neither does Apple allow access to the core functions of the iPhone API. Therefore, all existing call recording apps in the Apple app store have to find workarounds to get around these limitations. These apps generally require you to subscribe to their 3-way calling services and pay a monthly subscription fee to be able to record phone calls. In our view, recording a phone call from the iPhone does not have to be that complicated and costly. Hence, we describe a different phone recording approach in this article that you do not need to subscribe to any unnecessary services, and thereby saving your costs.
As the first step, please get a mobile phone recording adapter for your iPhone. One of the most straightforward and inexpensive adapters that we recommend is the Olympus TP-8 Telephone Pick-up Microphone for less than US$15. Besides the adapter, please download and install EzPhone Recorder - a software-based phone call recorder runs on your Windows PC as described on the left sidebar of this page. EzPhone Recorder uses this adapter to record your phone calls on the iPhone. More importantly, the program implements the modern digital signal processing algorithms to enhance your audio quality automatically. Because of that, you might be thrilled by its superior recording quality on such an inexpensive device.
Once you have EzPhone Recorder installed, please plug in your recording adapter into the computer microphone jack as shown above. In the diagram, the mobile phone recording adapter has a sound pickup opening at the back of the earpiece. To record phone conversations from your iPhone, you move the speaker on the iPhone to cover this opening.
After you install the software and connect the recording device as described above, you can now set up the line devices within the software. To configure the recording lines, please click the Setup menu on EzPhone Recorder menubar, and choose the Phone Recording Lines & Devices submenu item. Then, the Setup Phone Recording Devices & Lines dialog is displayed below. Please pick a phone recording device for the recording line from its dropdown list on the dialog. Once completed, please click the OK button to save all your settings.
You are now ready to record phone calls from your iPhone. To manually record phone calls, please click the Record (Standard Edition) button, or the Line #1 to Line #5 (Professional/Business Edition) buttons on the EzPhone Recorder toolbar shown below.
All recorded phone calls are stored on your hard drive, and you can attach notes or export them to other media. There is no recording length limit on each call. So as long as your hard disk permits, you can record and keep all phone conversations permanently.
Please note there are laws and guidelines on phone call recording. When a mobile phone recording adapter is used to record phone calls, no legal announcement is played onto the telephone line. Therefore, it is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with your local, state, or country laws when recording phone conversations.
The above method is applicable not just for recording phone calls from the iPhone. It works for Android phones and all other types of smartphones as well (e.g., BlackBerry, Windows Phone). For further information, please click the related articles below.
